Tutoring Tips

  FAQ

Q:  Where is Tutoring Services?

A:  Foy Hall, Room 300A.

Q: How do I get a tutor?

A: Go to Tutoring Services and fill out a Tutor Request Form. Filled out forms should be returned to Foy Hall, Room 300A. A convenient drop box is available for drop off if the office is closed.

Q: Do I have to pay for a tutor?

A:  The College provides Group Tutoring at no charge to students.  Individual tutors, when available, are free of charge for one hour per week for each course being taken.  Beyond that need, individual arrangements can be discussed with the Tutoring Coordinator.

Q:  How can I reach the Tutoring Services Office?

A:  The easiest way is to email Tutoring@Siena.edu.  You will receive a response within 24 hours.  You may also call 782-5769 or stop in at Foy Hall 300A during regular hours.

Q:  How do I know if I need a tutor?

A:  You may want to try a tutor if you have spoken to your instructor and have concluded that additional assistance would be helpful or if you have received a grade below your realistic expectations or feel you could do better with added help.  Attend a Group Tutoring Session, if one is available, OR come in and talk with us!

Q:  How can I become a tutor?

A:  Start by asking yourself: “Am I academically strong in a particular subject or subjects?” “Do I want to help other students?” “Would I like to earn some money while helping another student?”  If you answer yes to these questions, becoming a tutor may be right for you.  Contact Tutoring Services at Tutoring@Siena.edu, or download the form and return it to Foy 300A.  You will be contacted directly.  Read the section here on becoming a peer tutor.
