“One would expect Democrats to support John Kerry’s hand-picked running mate, but the number of Republicans who think Edwards will help the ticket – 52% - is impressive,” notes Joe Caruso, Director of Polling for the Siena Research Institute. “Equally interesting is finding that 27% of Republicans say Cheney will hurt George Bush’s chances for election; only 34% say Cheney will help the ticket.  At the same time, the President’s approval rating is seriously low, not only overall, but also on the issues. He takes the biggest hit for his handling of the situation in Iraq.”
