Siena New York Poll for June: Approval Ratings, U.S. Senators
Clinton’s Approval down 1 point to 62%
Schumer’s Approval down 3 points to 60%

Loudonville, NY – Senator Clinton’s approval dropped a point to 62%, and Senator Schumer’s approval dropped 3 points to 60%, according to the latest Siena New York Poll from the Siena (College) Research Institute (SRI).

Senator Clinton’s
approval rating decreased among most demographic groups in June.
The biggest drop in approval was among Democrats
– down 7 points to 79%; among women – down 4 points to 65%; and
among lower income families – down 3 points to 64%.
Her approval increased among men – up 4 points to 60%;
and among Independents and “other” party members – up 4 points to
59%; and higher income –up 1 point to 62%.
Her approval ratings remained the same among outside New York City –
56%, and among younger New Yorkers – 63%.

Her highest approval is among Democrats - 79%; her lowest
is among Republicans - 36%.

Her disapproval rating went down 1 point to 26%.
Senator Schumer’s approval rating also decreased among most demographic groups. His biggest drop in approval was among Democrats - down 10 points to 68%; men - down 8 points to 55%; and among older New Yorkers – down 8 points to 65%. His approval increased among Independents and “other” party members – up 3 points to 57%; and among women – up 1 point to 64%; and younger New Yorkers – up 1 point to 57%. His approval remained the same among Republicans – 48%.
· His highest approval is among Democrats - 68%; his lowest is among Republicans – 48%.
· His disapproval went up 3 points to 21%.
Also in June:

Senator Clinton led Senator Schumer in New York City
(69%-63%) and among Democrats (79%-68%), men (60%-55%), women
(65%-64%), younger New Yorkers (63%-57%), lower income (64%-55%),
and Independents and “other” party members (59%-57%).

Senator Schumer led Senator Clinton outside New York City
(57%-56%) and among Republicans (48%-36%), older New Yorkers
(65%-61%), and higher income (64%-62%).
“Both U.S. Senators
lost significant approval points from Democrats,” notes Joe Caruso, SRI
Director of Polling. “Even with that drop in support, Democrats remain highly
supportive of both Senators, and increases in support from other groups resulted
in the Senators maintaining a high approval rating, above their 12-month and 38
month averages.”
This
SRI survey was conducted during the month of June 2004 by random telephone calls
to 620 New York State residents over the age of 18.
