Eastern Study Group

North American Kant Society

General Information

The Eastern Study Group of the North American Kant Society was started in 2004 by Sharon Anderson-Gold. Our purpose is to promote the discussion of Kantian scholarship among faculty and students on the East Coast. We hold meetings annually, usually in the Spring, in which a handful of papers selected by a program committee are discussed in a friendly but rigorous atmosphere. We welcome thematic and historical contributions that show the relevance of Kantian thought in its manifold aspects. Our meetings are open to the public and feature an invited speaker. The best graduate paper receives a stipend of $100 and is eligible to the Markus Herz Award.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, January 15, 2009. Please send all papers electronically to the organizer, Professor Pablo Muchnik, pmuchnik@siena.edu

Reading time is limited to 30 minutes, leaving plenty of opportunity for discussion during the conference. Submissions should not exceed 25 pages. Graduate student submissions are encouraged. The best graduate student paper will receive a $100 stipend and be eligible for the Markus Herz Award. Papers already read at other NAKS study groups may not be submitted.

We have reserved a block of 18 rooms at the Days Inn-Penn State, 240 S. Pugh Street, State College, PA 16801, (814) 238-8454. Conference Name: NAKS; Rate: 79$/night. Reservations must be made by March 24, 2009 for conference rate.
