With a passion for jazz, poetry, basketball and the law, the honorable Randolph Treece brings his zeal for life to the courts. A United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of New York since 2001, Judge Treece holds the distinction of being the first African American in the Northern District. Not since 1789, when George Washington created the Northern District has an African American man held the position of a federal judge in this district. That Randolph Treece holds this honor is a testament to his persistence and courage, battling adversaries in the form of racism and elitism to emerge at the top. Those who know Randolph Treece speak of a down to earth, soft-spoken judge who likes to be called Randy; a shining example for minorities and the American Judicial system.
